Our Story

Built from 9 years
inside Korea's best
hospitals.

Medico Korea was founded by Kayla β€” a hospital interpreter who spent nearly a decade at Seoul's top medical institutions. Not as a visitor. As the person who knew exactly what was happening, what it meant, and what patients really needed.

How Medico Korea
came to be

I did not start this business from a boardroom. I started it from a hospital corridor β€” after years of watching international patients navigate one of the world's best healthcare systems completely alone.

I grew up spending time in the United States, which gave me a front-row view of something that always struck me: how expensive, fragmented, and exhausting healthcare is outside of Korea. Family members abroad who hadn't had a proper checkup in years β€” not because they didn't care, but because coordinating it was a project in itself, and the cost was genuinely prohibitive.

Meanwhile, I was working inside Korean hospitals that could do in one morning what took six months to arrange at home. The contrast was impossible to ignore.

I spent approximately 5 years working in-house at some of Seoul's most respected hospitals β€” orthognathic jaw surgery clinics, leading dental clinics, and top plastic surgery centers. I also worked extensively as an English interpreter at Seoul National University Hospital, one of Korea's most prestigious medical institutions. Nearly 4 years of full-time English medical interpretation, across surgeries, consultations, and recovery.

By the end of it, I knew exactly which hospitals had the best outcomes. Which surgeons were worth the price. Which clinics told patients what they wanted to hear and which ones told them the truth. That knowledge is not something you can get from a Google search. It comes from being in the room.

My family abroad hadn't had a proper checkup in years β€” not because they didn't care, but because the cost was prohibitive and the system was exhausting to navigate. I knew what Korea could offer them. I just needed to build the bridge.

Three problems I saw
every single day.

After nearly a decade in Korean hospitals, certain patterns were impossible to ignore. These are the exact problems Medico Korea was built to solve.

πŸ’Έ
Healthcare abroad is prohibitively expensive
My family in the US and other countries told me the same thing: a comprehensive health checkup costs thousands, takes months to arrange, and still doesn't cover what a Korean screening does in one morning. People were skipping checkups entirely because of the cost and friction. That is a problem with consequences.
⚠️
Patients choosing clinics by price alone β€” and paying twice
I saw it constantly in cosmetic surgery: patients who had found a "cheap" clinic abroad, or the cheapest option in Korea without proper vetting, coming in for revision surgery. The second surgery always cost more than getting it right the first time. Price is not the same as value β€” and in medicine, the gap can be serious.
πŸ—ΊοΈ
International patients navigating alone β€” in a foreign language
A patient who does not speak Korean, does not know which hospital to choose, and does not understand what the doctor just told them is in a fundamentally vulnerable position. I spent years being the person who fixed that in real time. Medico Korea is that same support β€” but planned in advance, not improvised in a corridor.

What we actually believe in

These are not marketing statements. They are the things I learned from being in the room β€” in the hospitals, in the consultations, in the operating theatres.

πŸ₯
We only recommend what we would recommend to family
Every hospital and clinic we work with has been vetted through direct professional experience β€” not through partnerships or referral fees. If we would not send our own family there, we do not send clients there.
πŸ”
Honest information, even when it is not what you want to hear
If a program is not right for your situation, we say so. If a procedure requires more recovery time than a short trip allows, we say so. Informed patients make better decisions β€” and have better outcomes.
🀝
You are never alone in the hospital
Your coordinator stays with you from check-in to results. Not waiting outside. Not available by phone. In the room, translating in real time, making sure you understand every single thing that happens.
πŸ’Ž
Quality over volume
We are not a booking platform. We are a concierge service. Every client is handled personally. We do not sell your details to hospitals. We do not take commissions that create conflicts of interest.
🌍
World-class Korean healthcare belongs to everyone
Korea has built something remarkable in preventive healthcare. The infrastructure, the efficiency, the diagnostic depth β€” it should not be limited to people who happen to live here. We are the bridge.
πŸ“‹
Follow-through matters as much as the day itself
The screening day is the beginning, not the end. Results need to be explained. Findings need follow-up. We stay involved until you fully understand your results and know what your next step is.

Where I have worked and interpreted

Nearly a decade across these specialties gave Kayla a depth of clinical knowledge that no brochure or website can provide. She knows these hospitals from the inside.
