Medico Korea was founded by Kayla β a hospital interpreter who spent nearly a decade at Seoul's top medical institutions. Not as a visitor. As the person who knew exactly what was happening, what it meant, and what patients really needed.
I did not start this business from a boardroom. I started it from a hospital corridor β after years of watching international patients navigate one of the world's best healthcare systems completely alone.
I grew up spending time in the United States, which gave me a front-row view of something that always struck me: how expensive, fragmented, and exhausting healthcare is outside of Korea. Family members abroad who hadn't had a proper checkup in years β not because they didn't care, but because coordinating it was a project in itself, and the cost was genuinely prohibitive.
Meanwhile, I was working inside Korean hospitals that could do in one morning what took six months to arrange at home. The contrast was impossible to ignore.
I spent approximately 5 years working in-house at some of Seoul's most respected hospitals β orthognathic jaw surgery clinics, leading dental clinics, and top plastic surgery centers. I also worked extensively as an English interpreter at Seoul National University Hospital, one of Korea's most prestigious medical institutions. Nearly 4 years of full-time English medical interpretation, across surgeries, consultations, and recovery.
By the end of it, I knew exactly which hospitals had the best outcomes. Which surgeons were worth the price. Which clinics told patients what they wanted to hear and which ones told them the truth. That knowledge is not something you can get from a Google search. It comes from being in the room.
After nearly a decade in Korean hospitals, certain patterns were impossible to ignore. These are the exact problems Medico Korea was built to solve.
These are not marketing statements. They are the things I learned from being in the room β in the hospitals, in the consultations, in the operating theatres.
Nearly a decade across these specialties gave Kayla a depth of clinical knowledge that no brochure or website can provide. She knows these hospitals from the inside.
